Riff 15

A Minor Jam Track

E Minor Jam Track

This is a great riff – I’ve heard versions of this in SO many songs! From rock to country to blues, this is a really versatile riff. The trick is to practice it enough (like all of these!) until it really becomes your own, and takes on your own feel and timing.

Incidentally, in a moment we’ll be talking about Unlocking Your Riffs, and looking at a technique to re-discover your riffs in other locations on the fretboard. This particular riff is one that I first learned after listening to Eric Clapton – and I first learned it in Box 4. It became a real favorite of mine, and later on I applied the techniques we’ll talk about to find this particular variation of it. I hope you get as much mileage out of this riff as I have!
